Lord Colbeck appointed as Inquiry Chair

Scottish Ministers today announced that they have appointed Lord Colbeck as Chair to the Sheku Bayoh Inquiry (SBI). Lord Colbeck takes up the role of Chair on Monday, 2 March 2026.

SBI welcomes the appointment of Lord Colbeck as Chair, which follows the resignation last year of former Chair, Lord Bracadale.

We look forward to working with the new Chair to fulfil the Inquiry’s terms of reference.

Lord Colbeck, Craig Turnbull, was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Courts in May 2023, having previously served as Sheriff Principal of Glasgow and Strathkelvin from September 2016 and as Vice President of the Sheriff Appeal Court from May 2022.
